About Blue Pearl Tech
Blue Pearl Tech is the engineering team of the Blue Pearl group. The group runs operating businesses, starting with a mortgage brokerage, and we build the software those businesses run on. We work on site with the people who use what we build, and most of what we ship goes into production within the first week of a project.
The team is small. You will work directly with Edward Tran, who leads engineering and client work.
We are hiring two BCIT co-op students for the January 2027 term.
The role
A forward deploy engineer sits with the client, learns how their business actually runs, finds the problem that is costing them time or money, and builds the fix. You will do that alongside our lead, not on your own.
You will use AI coding agents (Claude Code and Codex) as a normal part of the job. We expect you to direct them, review their output and be responsible for what ships. Our engineers routinely run several agents in parallel on one task. We pay for frontier models so you spend your time on the problem, not waiting.
What you will do
- Spend time in the client's office. Watch how work gets done, ask questions, and write down what is slow or broken.
- Build the fix. Most of our work is TypeScript, Next.js and Postgres on Supabase. The problem decides the tool.
- Test on real data with a real user waiting to try it.
- Ship small pieces often. When something breaks, say so, then fix it.
- Use the internal tools our team built, including a daily brief that an AI writes from our commits, tickets and meetings. When it gets something wrong, you help fix it.
What we look for
- Something you built and finished. A side project, a deployed site, a repo with real commits. We weight this more than grades and we do not screen on GPA.
- Experience using AI tools to write code, or a clear interest in learning to use them well. Either is fine. We can tell the difference between the two and we are happy with both.
- Comfort talking to non-technical people. You can sit with someone, listen to a messy description of a problem, and come back with a useful question.
- Depth in something. Anything you have gone deep on, technical or not. It tells us you know what getting good at something takes.
This is not a good fit if you want a fully specified ticket before you start, or if you want to write code for four months without meeting a user.

- Positions: 2
- Term: January to April 2027, 4 months. Option to extend to 8 months.
- Location: Surrey, BC. Our office and client sites. In person.
- Pay: $12,800 for the four-month term. At 40 hours a week that is about $18.50 an hour, and every intern on the program is paid the same.
- Eligibility: BCIT co-op students. The placement runs through Mitacs.
